On 11 June 2026, IOMed Secretary-General Prof. Teresa Cheng met with His Excellency Abdellatif OUAHBI, Minister of Justice of the Kingdom of Morocco, in Rabat.
Prof. Cheng expressed sincere appreciation for Morocco’s support for IOMed as a Signatory State to the IOMed Convention, and briefed Minister Ouahbi on the latest developments of IOMed, including the growth of member states, successful cases of mediation, and progress in capacity building.
Minister Ouahbi extended warm welcome to Prof. Cheng, and reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to the purposes of the IOMed Convention.
Prof. Cheng commended Morocco’s initiatives to institutionalize mediation in its judicial system, including in the commercial sphere.
Both sides emphasized the importance of promoting wider use of mediation, as a means of peaceful dispute resolution enshrined in the UN Charter, at the domestic, regional and international levels.
The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation between IOMed and Morocco, including in awareness raising and capacity building for mediation.
Following the meeting, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on future collaboration between IOMed and the Moroccan Ministry of Justice.
