On 12 June 2026, IOMed Secretary-General Prof. Teresa Cheng attended the seminar “National and International Mediation: Cross-Perspectives on Institutional and Sectoral Dynamics” hosted by the Moroccan Ministry of Justice in Casablanca.
In her remarks at the opening session, Prof. Cheng highlighted the advantages of mediation as an amicable, efficient and cost-effective means of dispute resolution, where the parties have control over both the process and outcome.
She emphasized that IOMed, as the world’s first treaty-based intergovernmental organization dedicated to mediation and an international public good in the legal domain, has filled an institutional gap in international dispute resolution mechanisms and provides Moroccan businesses with a viable option and credible platform to resolve international investment and commercial disputes through mediation.
His Excellency Abdellatif OUAHBI, Minister of Justice of the Kingdom of Morocco, also delivered remarks at the seminar. Noting that mediation has always been valued in Moroccan culture, he underscored Morocco’s commitment to promote mediation at national and international levels, and strengthen capacity building for mediation.
