
On 10 June 2026, IOMed Secretary-General Prof. Teresa Cheng met with His Excellency Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, in Algiers.
Prof. Cheng expressed gratitude for the constructive contribution of Algeria to the establishment of IOMed. She briefed Minister Attaf on the latest developments of IOMed since its inauguration, and reiterated IOMed’s commitment to promote global peace and foster a mediation ecosystem together with Algeria and other member states.
Minister Attaf welcomed the progress made by IOMed and reaffirmed Algeria’s strong support for the purposes of the IOMed Convention. Both sides highlighted the crucial role of mediation in promoting peaceful settlement of disputes, friendly relations and international cooperation.
They also discussed the use of mediation in international commercial and investment disputes and recognized its value as an amicable, efficient and cost-effective means of dispute resolution. The Minister recognized the importance of encouraging businesses and individuals to consider mediation as a viable option for dispute resolution.
The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperative relations between IOMed and Algeria, and promote wider use of mediation at both the international and domestic levels.
