On 6 August 2026, Secretary-General Prof. Teresa Cheng met with Dr. Korir Sing’Oei, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Kenya, at the IOMed headquarters in Hong Kong, China.
Prof. Cheng warmly welcomed Dr. Sing’Oei for visiting the IOMed headquarters and expressed appreciation for Kenya’s strong support for IOMed as a Contracting State. She updated Dr. Sing’Oei on the latest developments of the Organization, including the continued expansion of its membership, the successful settlement of multiple disputes through mediation administered by IOMed, and the capacity building activities on State-to-State and investor-State mediation.
Dr. Sing’Oei applauded the important progress achieved by IOMed since its inauguration, and reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to work closely with IOMed. He recognized that the establishment of IOMed is timely and relevant, and provides a coherent mechanism for mediation as one of the peaceful means of dispute settlement enshrined in the UN Charter.
The two sides share the view that IOMed is well-positioned to contribute to global peace and security through its mediation services and by serving as a platform for experience sharing on mediation.
They agreed to explore practical steps to strengthen cooperation in promoting wider use of mediation at the international, regional and domestic levels, as well as in capacity building for mediators, potential users and youth talents, especially in Africa.
Prof. Cheng reiterated IOMed’s commitment to foster a global mediation ecosystem together with Kenya and other member states. Dr. Sing’Oei welcomed IOMed’s plan to host the IOMed Forum in Hong Kong later this year and organize the IOMed Moot in the future, and expressed readiness to support these initiatives.
H.E. Willy Bett, Ambassador of Kenya to China and Vice Chairperson of the IOMed Governing Council, attended the meeting.
