On 17 June 2026, IOMed Secretary-General Prof. Teresa Cheng met with His Excellency Nenad VUJIČ, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Serbia, in Belgrade.
Prof. Cheng expressed gratitude for Serbia’s strong support for IOMed as a founding member that participated in the establishment of the Organization from the beginning. She briefed Minister Vujič on the latest progress in the development of IOMed, including successful cases of mediation and capacity building initiatives, and highlighted that IOMed is committed to fostering a global mediation ecosystem together with Serbia and other member states.
Minister Vujič warmly welcomed Prof. Cheng for visiting Serbia. Recalling his signing of the IOMed Convention on behalf of Serbia in Hong Kong in May 2025, Minister Vujič applauded the achievements of IOMed since its inauguration last October, and reaffirmed Serbia’s commitment to support the work of IOMed.
Both sides emphasized the crucial role of mediation in facilitating peaceful settlement of international disputes on the basis of equality and mutual understanding. They underscored the relevance of mediation in the current global context, and recognized that the establishment of IOMed is conducive to promoting sustainable peace and economic cooperation.
Noting that the IOMed Convention enters into force for Serbia on the same day of this meeting, the two sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation between IOMed and Serbia, including through experience sharing and training activities.
