What is this Lecture About?
The lecture will examine the growing role of mediation and arbitration in resolving global patent licensing disputes involving standard-essential patents (SEPs) licensed on fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms. Professor Jacques de Werra of the University of Geneva will assess, against recent European developments, whether alternative dispute resolution (ADR) offers a more effective framework than national court litigation for setting global FRAND terms. The lecture will also consider specialized FRAND arbitration rules, notably the emerging rules of the Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre (PMAC) under the Agreement on a Unified Patent Court, and whether ADR models can help resolve other cross-border technology disputes.

What is IOMed Global Series?
