Prof. Teresa Cheng Meets Minister of State Aqeel Malik of Pakistan

On 8 May 2026, Secretary-General Prof. Teresa Cheng met with the Honorable Barrister Aqeel Malik, Minister of State at the Ministry of Law and Justice of Pakistan, on the sidelines of the Global Mediation Summit organized by IOMed.
 
Prof. Cheng warmly welcomed Minister of State Malik for coming to Hong Kong to attend the Global Mediation Summit on 8 May and the IOMed Seminar on 9 May, and expressed her appreciation for the strong support extended to IOMed by Pakistan as a Contracting States of the Organization. She briefed the Minister of State on the progress achieved by IOMed in mediation case management and design of capacity building programs since commencing operations, as well as IOMed’s plan for future development, including international staff recruitment.
 
Minister of State Aqeel Malik extended cordial congratulations to IOMed on the successful organization of the Global Mediation Summit. He also introduced to Prof. Cheng the International Mediation and Arbitration Center (IMAC) established under the Ministry of Law and Justice of Pakistan, and expressed hope to explore cooperation between IMAC and IOMed.
 
Prof. Cheng affirmed IOMed’s readiness to explore stronger collaboration with Pakistan, including joint training programs. The two sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
 
The Global Mediation Summit is the first major international conference hosted by IOMed since its inauguration on 20 October 2025, which brought together more than 400 leaders, policymakers and distinguished professionals from 48 countries and regions to discuss topics such as international mediation in cross-cultural contexts, mediation for international investment disputes, and development of a global mediation ecosystem.
 
The IOMed Seminar is the first closed-door capacity building event for IOMed Signatory States, where distinguished mediators and legal professionals elaborated on the essential aspects of international mediation from different perspectives through a mediation demonstration.
