On 13 February 2026, IOMed Secretary-General Prof. Teresa CHENG Yeuk-wah SC met with Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Mr. Nurlan Yermekbayev at the SCO Secretariat in Beijing, China.

Prof. Cheng extended congratulations on the success of recent SCO summits, and briefed Mr. Yermekbayev on IOMed’s mission to administer mediation for inter-State, investor-State and international commercial disputes, and promote mediation capacity building, as well as its vision to foster a global mediation ecosystem. Noting the important decision at the SCO Tianjin Summit to establish an SCO Development Bank, Prof. Cheng expressed her hope for SCO member states to consider incorporating the idea of mediation into the design of the bank.

Mr. Yermekbayev recognized the value of mediation as a peaceful means of disputes settlement and the significance of IOMed’s establishment. He congratulated Prof. Cheng for being appointed the first Secretary-General of IOMed and expressed the readiness of the SCO Secretariat to have cooperation with IOMed.
