Overseas Delegation led by President of the Law Society of Hong Kong visits IOMed

On 20 January 2026, Secretary-General Prof. Teresa Cheng received a delegation of overseas legal leaders at the IOMed Headquarters. Led by Mr. Roden Tong, President of the Law Society of Hong Kong, the delegation included representatives from the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA), the German Federal Bar, the Milan Bar Association, and the Asociación Nacional de Abogados de Empresa (ANADE).
Secretary‑General Prof. Cheng introduced the establishment, mission, and scope of mediation services of IOMed. She highlighted the organization’s mission in strengthening the global mediation community by promoting mediation awareness and readiness among dispute resolution users through capacity building.
Mr. Fernando Hernández Gómez, President of the UIA, shared that the UIA is actively promoting mediation globally and exploring the possibility of organizing an international mediation event in Hong Kong. Prof. Cheng welcomed this proposal, recognizing its potential to promote Hong Kong as the international mediation capital.
Ms. Sabine Fuhrmann, Vice President of the German Federal Bar, Mr. Antonino La Lumia, President of the Milan Bar Association, and Mr. José Ángel Santiago Ábrego, President of ANADE also shared their views on avenues for international collaboration on mediation. Prof. Cheng expressed appreciation to their support on the promotion on international mediation, and gave a special note of thanks to the Law Society of Hong Kong for its continued effort in connecting legal professionals worldwide and advancing the mediation dialogue.
