Secretary-General Prof. Teresa CHENG Yeuk-Wah SC Meets with China Merchants Group Chairman Miao Jianmin

On 16 December, IOMed Secretary-General Prof. Teresa CHENG Yeuk-Wah SC met with Chairman of China Merchants Group (CMG) Mr. Miao Jianmin in Hong Kong.

Prof. Teresa CHENG briefed Mr. Miao on IOMed’s mediation services, capacity building initiatives and development vision.

IOMed is committed to becoming a global public good and an important pillar for the peaceful resolution of international disputes, providing a more equitable and inclusive option for countries around the world in international dispute settlement, particularly for the Global South.

IOMed offers mediation services for disputes between States, commercial and investment disputes between a State and a national of another State, and international commercial disputes between private parties. It is hoped that the CMG and its affiliated entities will actively support and utilize this specialized platform with unique advantages for resolving international commercial and investment disputes.

Mr. Miao Jianmin noted that IOMed provides enterprises with a new channel for dispute resolution outside of litigation and arbitration. The CMG will actively promote the use of mediation and support the development of IOMed.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Song Rong (Deputy General Manager and General Counsel of CMG), Mr. Zhang Junli (Assistant General Manager, Board Secretary, and Director of the General Office of CMG), Mr. Yang Yuntao (Chief Compliance Officer and Head of the Risk Management/Legal & Compliance Department of CMG), Ms. Zhai Juan (General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES)), Mr. David Ng (IOMed) and Ms. Sabrina Huang (IOMed).

The CMG, a key state-owned enterprise directly administered by the central government of China, is headquartered in Hong Kong and stands as one of the earliest Chinese-funded enterprises established and operating in the region.
